We will consult with you about your best course of treatment for any issues we may discover. Oral Cancer Screenings

Cancer is a scary word. However, when mouth cancers are identified early, there is a much greater chance of a cure. At Rosedale Dental, we provide thorough oral cancer screenings to search for signs of cancer or precancerous conditions in your mouth.

One of the ways we screen for oral cancer is to view the inside of your mouth, the lining of your cheeks, and your back gums. We examine your tongue to look at all surfaces to search for abnormalities. We also search by feeling for lumps or enlarged lymph nodes in both sides of your neck and under your lower jaw. In addition to the visual screening, Dr. Wendy Rose-Hyatt will use a Velscope to check for any signs of oral cancer. The Velscope is a handheld device that uses the fluorescence of the natural tissue in your mouth to show abnormalities that cannot be seen by a visual exam alone. It’s important to be screened for oral cancer and it is covered as a preventive treatment by most insurances.

X-rays

One of the first things we’ll do in a comprehensive exam is take digital x-rays of your teeth. Dental x-rays not only show the teeth, but the bones and soft tissues around them. It is extremely helpful in discovering problems with the teeth, mouth, and jaw. Digital x-rays can show cavities, hidden dental structures (such as wisdom teeth), and bone loss that may not be obvious from a visual examination. Digital x-rays are considered very safe because they produce a low-level of radiation.

Hygiene

Good oral and dental hygiene can go a long way to prevent dental problems such as bad breath, tooth decay, and gum disease. You know what else proper hygiene can do? It can help you keep your teeth as you age. Studies have long linked good oral hygiene with preventing heart attacks and heart disease. Plus a clean mouth always feels great. At Rosedale Dental, our experienced dental hygienists will take the time to thoroughly clean your teeth using Piezoelectric scaling device, provide fluoride treatments, and show you proper brushing and flossing techniques.

Periodontal Therapy

Periodontal therapy is important for healthy teeth and gums. Our main techniques are scaling and root planing. These are deep cleaning procedures to best control the onset of gum disease. Scaling and root planing involves carefully cleaning the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus (tartar) from those deep periodontal pockets and smooth out your teeth to remove any bacterial toxins. Bleeding while brushing, red and swollen gums, and gum infections can all be early signs of gum disease so intervention is necessary to prevent further damage. Our hygienists are specially trained in performing the therapy to help revitalize and restore healthy looking gums.

Fluoride Treatments

At Rosedale Dental, we provide fluoride treatments for children and adults. Fluoride is important in that it makes teeth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in your mouth. Fluoride can also help prevent tooth decay. It’s important to note not to drink anything hot like tea or coffee, or eat any sticky foods for four hours following a fluoride treatment since they can remove the fluoride from your teeth.

Mouthguards

When it comes to sports, mouthguards are just as important of a piece of equipment as a helmet or shin guard. A custom fit sports mouthguard from Dr. Wendy Rose-Hyatt will help protect your broken or cracked teeth and other injury or damage to your mouth.

Rosedale Dental can also custom fit dental nightguards to help reduce the clenching or grinding of your teeth, also known as bruxism. Bruxism is a common activity that can happen during the day or at night and can lead to jaw and neck pain along with unexplained headaches. Our custom fit dental nightguards will help protect your teeth while you sleep and prevent further damage which could lead to more serious dental issues.
